The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is something of a risk at the moment, so you may envision that there might be little affinity for patronizing Zimbabwe’s gambling dens. Actually, it appears to be working the other way, with the critical market circumstances leading to a higher ambition to play, to try and discover a quick win, a way out of the crisis.

For almost all of the locals subsisting on the meager local wages, there are two common forms of gambling, the national lottery and Zimbet. As with almost everywhere else on the globe, there is a state lottery where the probabilities of succeeding are surprisingly tiny, but then the jackpots are also extremely big. It’s been said by economists who look at the idea that the lion’s share do not buy a card with a real assumption of hitting. Zimbet is built on either the domestic or the British soccer divisions and involves predicting the results of future matches.

Zimbabwe’s casinos, on the other shoe, pander to the astonishingly rich of the country and sightseers. Up till recently, there was a exceptionally large sightseeing industry, founded on safaris and visits to Victoria Falls. The market collapse and connected crime have carved into this trade.

Amongst Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has just the slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slot machines. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which have gaming tables, one armed bandits and electronic poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the two of which have slot machines and table games.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the aforementioned talked about lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a pools system), there is a total of two horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the market has contracted by more than 40 percent in the past few years and with the connected poverty and violence that has arisen, it isn’t known how healthy the vacationing business which is the backbone of Zimbabwe’s casinos will do in the next few years. How many of the casinos will carry through until things get better is basically not known.
