There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, contains 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that features a number of amenities aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
